ISSUES
Making our streets safer
- Investing in Police Department hiring and training.
- Provide access to professionals for special situations, i.e. domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, homelessness.
- Law Enforcement needs to be involved in the community, citizen recognition and trust are important factors for a successful department.
- Hold Law Enforcement agencies accountable.
- Invest in better representation standards and prosecution protocols.
Health Care is an essential right
- Health care should be accessible for rural areas of our district who suffer disproportionate mortality rates.
- Transportation to health care facilities and clinics for rural areas needs to be improved.
- All residents need access to honest scientific information on health care issues.
- Women deserve access to safe medical procedures and health care that is correct for them and should make those decisions with their doctors not politicians.
- We need to continue and strengthen our commitment to supporting and providing for health care and quality of life opportunities for those with different developmental abilities.
Investing in all levels of education
- All communities need access to quality nonbiased education.
- Investments need to be made in trade schools and apprenticeships.
- Those seeking to advance in health care fields –especially in rural areas—need better access and support for their education.
GERRYMANDERING AND VOTER SUPRESSION
- Undermines Fair Representation: Gerrymandering allows political parties to manipulate district boundaries to their advantage, resulting in unequal representation.
- Erodes Voter Confidence: When voters perceive that their votes may not count as much due to gerrymandering, it undermines confidence in the electoral system. This disenfranchisement can lead to apathy and decreased voter turnout, weakening the democratic process.
- Inhibits Minority Representation: Gerrymandering can be used to dilute the voting power of racial or ethnic minority groups, making it harder for them to elect candidates who represent their interests. This undermines the principles of equality and inclusion that are fundamental to a functioning democracy.
Women's reproductive rights
- Legal abortion protects women's rights by ensuring they have autonomy over their own bodies and reproductive choices, free from government, religious interference, or coercion.
- Restrictive abortion laws often force women to seek clandestine or unsafe abortions, leading to emotional distress, trauma, and stigma. Legalizing abortion allows women to make informed choices about their reproductive health without fear of criminalization or judgment.
- Abortion is a legitimate medical procedure that is performed by licensed healthcare providers in safe and sterile environments. Legalizing abortion acknowledges this reality and ensures that women have access to quality healthcare services when they need them. It allows doctors and medical professionals to provide comprehensive care and support to women facing unplanned pregnancies, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
- Decisions about abortion are deeply personal and should be made by individuals in consultation with their healthcare providers, free from government interference. Legalizing abortion protects patient privacy and autonomy, recognizing that the relationship between a patient and their doctor is confidential. It allows women to access the healthcare services they need without fear of judgment or intrusion, upholding their fundamental rights to privacy and bodily autonomy.
